The short version: your recordings stay on your Mac unless you share them. The app has no analytics and needs no account. To check a license we keep your email, your license, and a short list of the Macs using it. When you make a share link, we host only what you chose to share, until it’s deleted.
Framecast is sold by Tawhid Joarder (“we”), its founder, based in Bangladesh. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Questions about your data: hello@framecast.pro.
The Framecast app
Your recordings
Recording, transcription, captions, voice cleanup, face tracking, background removal and export all run on your Mac. We don’t receive your recordings, transcripts or projects unless you share them.
They leave your Mac only when you choose to:
- Share links and shared projects are uploaded to share.framecast.pro, which we run. See “Share links” below. If you set Framecast to use your own server instead (Settings › Sharing › Your own server), they go to that server, and we don’t see them.
- Cloud voices (OpenAI or ElevenLabs) send the script you write to that service, with your own API key, under its privacy policy.
- Photo backgrounds send your search words to Unsplash or Openverse.
Framecast asks before the first upload to any server, such as share.framecast.pro, and names the server and what will be sent.
License checks
When you activate a license, and after that while Framecast is open and online (before an export, and about once an hour), Framecast sends our license server: the license key (on activation only), a scrambled ID of your Mac (a one-way hash of its hardware ID, which can’t be turned back into it), your Mac’s name, and the Framecast version. We use these to keep your license on at most 3 Macs and to show you which Macs use it.
Updates
Once a day Framecast asks our website whether a newer version exists. Like any web request, this includes your IP address and the app’s version; we don’t store them.
No analytics
The app contains no analytics, tracking or advertising code.
Share links
Share links work with any working license, and we host them at share.framecast.pro. This part covers what we keep when you share, and what we keep about the people who watch.
What’s uploaded
When you share a video, Framecast uploads only:
- The finished video: only the parts you kept, with your blurs drawn in.
- A thumbnail and its title.
- Its summary, chapters, subtitles and transcript, for the parts you kept, if “Subtitles, transcript and chapters on the page” is on.
- The people you invite, for an invite-only link: the names or emails you type.
Nothing else from your Mac is sent: not the original recording, the project, your camera files or any other audio. When you share a project with your team, Framecast uploads the copy you prepared, without what you chose to leave out. When you share from the editor, Framecast first checks the video for things that look private, and offers to blur them.
Where it’s stored
On Cloudflare, in Eastern North America. Your videos, thumbnails, shared projects and the details of each link are stored encrypted at rest by Cloudflare.
They aren’t end-to-end encrypted, so we could technically open them. We only look at something you shared when it’s reported, when the law requires it, or when you ask us for help with it.
Who can see it
The people you choose: anyone with the link, people with the password, or only the people you invite. Each invited person gets a personal link, which you can turn off at once, and you can see when each of them last watched and how many times. Links can’t be guessed, and search engines don’t list them.
When a link is pasted into an app like Slack or iMessage, its preview shows the video’s title and picture only if anyone with the link can watch. Password and invite-only links show nothing about the video.
How long we keep it
Until it’s deleted. On your account page you can see every link you’ve shared and the storage it uses, and delete any of them. Deleting removes the video, its files and its comments within minutes.
If your license stops working, its links are removed: 30 days after it’s refunded or turned off, and 90 days after a monthly subscription ends or is paused. We email you when this is scheduled, and again a week before. If your license works again in time, nothing is removed. We also take down anything that breaks our terms or the law (see “Reports” below).
Share links aren’t a backup: keep your own copies of what you share.
People who watch
Viewers don’t need an account. If they comment, we keep the comment and the name they type, which can be any name, and show them on the video’s page. A view is counted once per visitor every 6 hours, using a random cookie. We don’t store viewers’ IP addresses: to limit abuse and count views, we use scrambled, keyed hashes instead.
Cookies on share pages
Share pages set only the cookies they need: one to count views, one to remember a password or personal link for that video, and a short pass after a quick automatic browser check, which pages may ask for when share links are unusually busy. No advertising or tracking cookies.
Reports
Every share page has a Report button. A report sends us what’s wrong, any details you add, and your email if you choose to give it. We review reported items. Anything that breaks our rules or the law is taken down, its files are deleted, and we email its owner. We keep a report for a year after we’ve dealt with it.
The website and purchases
Buying
Lemon Squeezy is our reseller and merchant of record: they process your payment, handle tax and send your receipt, under their privacy policy. They send us your name, email, country and what you bought. We never see your card details.
What we keep
- Your email and name, your license (plan, dates, status) and a scrambled version of your key (we can’t read it back).
- The Macs on your license: the scrambled ID, name, Framecast version and when each last checked in.
- A log of purchase events from Lemon Squeezy, kept for 180 days to answer support questions.
We keep license records for as long as the license exists, and longer only where the law requires it (for example, tax records).
Emails
We email you your license key, sign-in links for your account page, and notices about your share links (for example, when they’re scheduled to be removed, or when one was taken down), through our email provider Resend. No newsletters unless you ask for them.
Cookies
Only two, both needed for the site to work: one keeps you signed in to your account page (30 days), and one lets the page after checkout show your new key (2 hours). No advertising or tracking cookies.
Visitor statistics
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a small script from Cloudflare, which hosts the site. It stores nothing on your device (no cookies) and doesn’t follow you across sites: it records the page you opened, the site that sent you, your country, your type of browser and device, and how fast the page loaded, and we see only totals. Our server also keeps daily totals of app downloads and of clicks on Buy buttons, with the page of this site each click came from, so we can tell which pages help people decide. These are plain counts: no cookie, nothing that identifies you. The website has no advertising scripts.
Hosting and security
The website and license server run on Cloudflare. To stop abuse, we briefly count requests per network address; we store only a keyed scramble of the address, never the address itself, and delete it within a day.
Why we use your data
- To deliver and check your license (your email, license and Macs): this is needed to provide what you bought.
- To host your share links (what you upload, and the comments and views on it): this is needed to provide what you asked for.
- To review reports and take down what breaks the rules or the law (reports, and the item reported): our legitimate interest in keeping share links safe, and sometimes a legal obligation.
- To stop abuse and answer support questions (request counts, the purchase event log): our legitimate interest in keeping the service working and fair.
- To see which pages people read and how they found us (visit totals from Cloudflare Web Analytics): our legitimate interest in improving the website.
- To keep tax and accounting records: a legal obligation.
We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it (deleting a license’s data ends the license). You can also object to how we use it. Depending on where you live, for example in the EU or California, you may have further rights. Email hello@framecast.pro and we’ll answer within 30 days.
If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
The companies that process data for us are Cloudflare (hosting, including share links), Lemon Squeezy (payments) and Resend (email). Some of them are in the United States; they use standard contractual protections for international transfers.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above, and tell license holders by email about important changes.
