When Screen Studio is the better choice
Screen Studio is a polished app, now on version 4, and it does a lot of what Framecast does: automatic zooms, a smooth cursor, camera layouts, on-device captions, share links and iPhone recording. Here’s when it may suit you better, with its details as listed on screen.studio in October 2026:
- Your Mac runs macOS 13 Ventura. Screen Studio recommends macOS 13.1 or later. Framecast needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
- Your team already works in it. If your colleagues pass Screen Studio projects and presets around, staying put keeps everyone on one tool.
- You want the option of cloud transcription. Screen Studio offers it as an option. Framecast transcribes only on your Mac.
- You simply like how it feels. Both apps make good-looking videos, and taste matters. Try Framecast on your next recording and compare for yourself.

Questions
Can I try Framecast for free?
Framecast is free to try, with every feature and no time limit. Exporting, which means saving, copying or sharing a video, needs a license: $79 $39 once, or $15 a month. Students and teachers get 40% off: ask us.
How much does Screen Studio cost?
Screen Studio is $29 a month, or $9 a month on the yearly plan, which comes to $108 a year, as listed on screen.studio in October 2026. Every feature is in both plans, and students and educators get 40% off.
Its FAQ says one-time licenses are no longer available for new purchases. Licenses bought earlier stay valid.
Can I bring my Screen Studio projects?

Do both apps keep my recordings on my Mac?
Yes. Framecast records, transcribes, cleans up your voice, blurs and exports on your Mac, and uploads only what you share, after asking first. Screen Studio says recordings are stored and processed locally, with optional cloud features such as cloud transcription, as listed on screen.studio in October 2026.
Does either one work on Windows?
No. Framecast is built for the Mac, and only the Mac. Screen Studio says it only supports macOS, with no near-future plans for Windows, as listed on screen.studio in October 2026.
