GuideGetting started
Your first video
Record your screen, let Framecast add the zooms and the background, then export or share. Three steps, a few minutes.
1. Record
- Press ⌥⌘↩ in any app. The recording bar appears.
- Pick what to record: Display, Window, Area or Device for an iPhone or iPad. Pick a camera and microphone on the row below if you want them.
- Click Record or press ↩. A 3-second countdown starts.
- Show what you want to show. Click and type as you normally would.
- Press ⌥⌘↩ again, or click the red stop button on the recording controls.
More in The recording bar and While you record.
2. Edit
When you stop, the editor opens with the work already done: zooms where you clicked and typed, a smooth cursor, and your recording framed on a background. Press Space to watch it.
Change anything you like. The inspector on the right has a tab for each part of the look, such as Background, Cursor and Zoom. To cut a part out, press S to split the clip at the playhead, click the part you don’t want and press ⌫. See The editor and Automatic zoom.
3. Export or share
Click Export in the toolbar or press ⌘E. Pick MP4, MOV or GIF and a size, then click Export to file. Copy to clipboard puts the video on your clipboard instead, ready to paste into a chat or an email. To send a link, click Share link in the toolbar. See Export a video and Share a link.
Tip: in a hurry? Click the arrow on the Record button and choose Copy the video to the clipboard. When you stop, Framecast makes the finished video and copies it without opening the editor. See After recording.
