Vertical video

Turn a screen recording into a 9:16 video for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with the recording filling the frame.

Plausible — a 9:16 video going from camera only to split, with bold captions · turn the sound on

Make it vertical

  1. Click the aspect ratio menu in the toolbar and choose Vertical 9:16.
  2. Keep zoomed in switches on, so the recording fills the frame and follows what you do instead of sitting in it as a thin strip.
  3. Play the video to check the framing. Your zooms still zoom in further from there.

Nothing is recorded again, so you can export a wide version, switch to 9:16 and export again. See Aspect ratio.

For a post in the Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn feed, choose Feed post 4:5 instead. It’s less tall than 9:16, and Keep zoomed in, the camera and captions work the same way.

Check the safe zone

In the same menu, choose Show social media overlay. The preview shows a mock-up of a TikTok or Reels screen, with a username, a caption and the side buttons, plus red bands at the top and bottom where the app covers your video. Keep anything important out of those bands. The overlay is only in the editor, never in the video. It’s for 9:16 and 3:4: a 4:5 feed post shows whole, with nothing over it.

Camera and captions

Zooms, the camera and captions re-arrange for a tall frame:

  • Camera overlay: the bubble moves to the bottom center and grows, with the recording above it.
  • Split: the recording goes above the camera instead of beside it.
  • Camera cutout: you stand centered under the recording.
  • Captions: they move up so they don’t cover the camera bubble or you.

See Camera layouts and Captions.

Tip: short videos feel tighter without “um” and “uh”. See Filler words.
