Your license

Record and edit with every feature for free. A license lets you export what you make, on up to 3 Macs.

What needs a license

Without a license, Framecast records and edits with every feature, for as long as you like. Only exporting needs a license: saving a video or GIF, copying it to the clipboard, share links, interactive demos, step-by-step guides, subtitle and transcript files, and raw files.

Every license, pay once or monthly, comes with share links hosted by Framecast, with 25 GB of storage. See Share a link.

When you try to export without one, Framecast shows Exporting needs a license. Click Buy Framecast to get one. If you already have a key, click Enter License Key… and paste it in Settings › License. Your recordings and projects stay on your Mac, ready to export once the license is active.

Buy a license

Pay once and keep it, with every future update, or pay monthly, for example for a single project. See framecast.pro/pricing, or click Buy Framecast in Settings › License.

After checkout, your key is on the page and in an email titled “Your Framecast license key”.

Activate it

  1. In the email, click Activate in Framecast, then Open in Framecast on the page that opens. Framecast opens and activates the key.
  2. Or open Settings › License, paste the key into License key and click Activate.

The tab then says Framecast is activated and lists the Macs using it, and you can export right away.

If Framecast can’t export

When a monthly subscription ends, or a license is refunded or your Mac is removed from it, Framecast goes back to the free version the next time it checks your license: before your next export, or when you switch back to it. You can still record and edit, but you can’t export. Your recordings and projects stay on your Mac. Resubscribe or activate a license to export again.

Your share links stay up for a while. They’re removed 30 days after a license is refunded or turned off, and 90 days after a monthly subscription ends or is paused. We email you first, and if the license works again in time, nothing is removed.

If Framecast hasn’t reached the license server for a while, or your Mac’s clock changed, it can’t export until it checks your license again. Connect to the internet and click Check now in Settings › License.

More than one Mac

A license works on up to 3 Macs: activate each one with the same key. If all 3 are in use, Framecast lists them when you activate. Click Deactivate next to one to free it and finish here.

Moving to a new Mac? On the old one, click Deactivate this Mac in Settings › License. If the old Mac is gone, remove it on your account page instead.

Find a lost key

Search your email for “Your Framecast license key”. If it’s not there, go to framecast.pro/account, enter the email you bought with and click Email me a link to sign in. Find my key in Settings › License opens the same page.

Your account lists each license with the last characters of its key and the Macs using it, each with Remove. It never shows the whole key: click Reset key… to get a new one by email. The old key stops working and every Mac is signed out, so activate again with the new key.
